Jeff Moberg's sixth inning grand slam broke a 4-4 tie and helped the Grand Junction Rockies to an 8-7 win over the Missoula Osprey Monday night at Suplizio Field.
Moberg's grand slam, his second home run of the season, followed Nic Motley's bases loaded walk which tied the game at four. It's the first Rockies grand slam since Hunter Melton hit one on August 10, 2016 vs Helena, and it helped the Rockies to their fourth straight win, they are now 4-3 in the second half, 22-23 overall.
Entering the game, the Rockies were 4-for-34 with four walks with the bases loaded in 2017.
Missoula battled back after the grand slam with Andy Yerzy cutting the Rockies lead in half with an eighth inning 2-run homer, and they had the tying run in scoring position in the ninth, but Tommy Doyle struck out Joey Rose to earn his second save of the season.
Grand Junction scored first with two runs in the third inning, Pedro Gonzalez doubled home Shael Mendoza and scored when Ramon Marcelino reached on an error, but the Osprey scored three runs in the fifth to take the lead. Gonzalez hit his third home of the season in the bottom of the inning to tie the game, but the Osprey scored a sixth inning run before the Rockies took the lead for good in the bottom of the inning.
Gonzalez finished 3-for-4 with two doubles and a home run. Todd Czinege also added a pair of hits.
On the mound, Lucas Gilbreath surrendered three runs on seven hits over five innings. Jorge Oviedo earned the win out of the bullpen, giving up one run over two innings.
