DAYTON, OH – The Dayton Dragons scored early and often on Sunday afternoon to finish a 12-game homestand with an 8-4 win over the Great Lakes Loons. The Loons ripped through six different pitchers in their second straight loss to fall out of the top spot in the division.

With the win, Dayton now holds a half-game lead over Great Lakes and Lake County in the High-A Central Eastern Division. The Loons continue on their 12-game road trip to play Lake County in an important six-game series starting on Tuesday.

In Sunday’s losing effort, Brandon Lewis tallied two hits - including a home run - to finish the week 10-for-24 with a league-best 11 RBI. Lewis slashed .417/.462/.917 in the series win versus Dayton. He has a real case to be named the first HAC player of the week for the Loons this season.

To finish the series, Dayton managed to score in five of the eight innings they went to the plate. Jacob Hurtubise, James Free, and Miguel Hernandez all nabbed multi-hit performances with Hernandez hitting their only home run in an eight-run showing. The Dragons got started early in the first inning against Clayton Beeter (L, 0-4) who allowed two runs before delivering a 1-2-3 2nd inning and handing things over to the bullpen.

On the mound, Dayton got four one-hit, one-run innings from starter Jacques Pucheu and then two innings from fellow right-hander Matt Gill (W, 2-0). Three more relievers combined for the final three frames.

The Loons lose the 2021 season series to Dayton 11-7. After losing nine of the first 10 games this year to Dayton, the Loons did manage to six of the final eight. Great Lakes continues on their 12-game road trip in Ohio as they head north to spend their off-day in greater Cleveland before taking on the Lake County Captains (Indians) from Tuesday to Sunday.
