Tolleson Promoted to Rancho

Drowne, Gomez Added to Loons Pitching Staff
May 13, 2011
Shawn Tolleson has wasted little time impressing in professional baseball, and the Los Angeles Dodgers are rewarding his efforts with a promotion to the club's High-A California League affiliate, the Rancho Cucamonga Quakes.

Tolleson, in his first full professional season after playing collegiately at Baylor, dominated Midwest League hitters this season. He struck out more than two batters per inning pitched (33 in 15 innings) and was 10-for-10 in save opportunities with one win and no earned runs on the season. For his career, he's 27-for-27 in save opportunities with two earned runs.

With the Quakes, Tolleson will play for former Loons manager Juan Bustabad.

Tolleson was informed of his promotion after the Loons day game Thursday at Dow Diamond, a 4-2 win over the Lugnuts.

The Dodgers have added two new pitchers to the Loons staff, left-hander Michael Drowne and righty Gustavo Gomez. Drowne was drafted last year by the Dodgers in the 28th round as a speedy outfielder. He went 1-for-7 last season in four games in the Arizona League and was converted to a pitcher. He attended Sacred Heart University in Connecticut, where he stole 33 bases and scored a school-record 65 runs in 2010.

Gomez, a Panamanian righty, is in his fourth Minor League season with the Dodgers but is just 19 years old. He split last season between the Arizona League and Ogden, appearing in 14 games, eight starts. He went a combined 4-3 with a 3.66 ERA.

Right-handed pitcher Robert Boothe has been sent to extended spring training in Glendale, Ariz. An updated roster is attached to this release reflecting the recent roster moves.

Both Drowne and Gomez are expected to be in uniform tonight in Lansing as the Loons play the Lugnuts in the first of a three-game series at 7:05pm. The Loons are currently in first place in the Midwest League's Eastern Division, one and a half games ahead of the Lugnuts. Tonight's game will be carried live on ESPN 100.9-FM and
