Late-inning rally gives Flyboys win over Kingsport

GREENEVILLE, Tenn. – A pair of two-run hits by David Bishop (TCU) and Maddox Mihalakis (Arizona) helped push the Greeneville Flyboys to a 4-1 win over the Kingsport Axmen in seven innings Sunday.

In a defensive battle early, Sam Petersen (Iowa) opened the scoring for the Axmen (34-15) in the top of the third, as his RBI single scored Gunner Gouldsmith (Sacramento State) to push Kingsport in front 1-0.

In the bottom of the fifth, an error by Petersen allowed Ian Daugherty (Oklahoma State) and Jack O’Reilly (Villanova) to get into scoring position, with Bishop bringing them home with a two-run single, giving the Flyboys (25-26) a 2-1 lead.

With two outs in the bottom of the sixth, Andrew Lindsey (Tennessee) walked the next two batters before Mihalakis brought home Will Brown (Florida A&M) and Daugherty to give the Flyboys the eventual 4-1 lead.

Brian Yetter (Marist) (3-5) went all seven innings, earning the win after giving up one run off three hits, walking three and striking out six.

Lindsey (0-1) was handed the loss, going 5 2/3 innings, giving up four runs off five hits, walking two and striking out six. William Shelton (LMU) got the final out of the sixth for the Axmen, facing one batter.
