Flores shines in GreenJackets win

July 31, 2013

AUGUSTA, Ga. - In his third longest outing starter Kendry Flores threw his fifth shutout this season. Flores gave up just six hits and no walks while striking out seven batters en route to the GreenJackets (55-49) 2-1 victory against the Braves (53-54) Tuesday night at Lake Olmstead Stadium.

Flores has now thrown back-to-back shut outs with the last one coming in a 10-3 win against the Asheville Tourist on July 23.

In addition to having five shut out performances, Flores has given up just one-run in four of his 18 appearances.

While Flores got out to a strong start, he needed reliever Jorge Bucardo's help to get him out of a jam in the eighth inning. Rome's Chase Anselment started off the inning with a single, Joey Meneses then flew out to right field and Ross Heffley singled to put runners on the corners.

Bucardo then came in and got Braves' Felix Marte to ground into a double and escaped the inning without allowing a run.

With Flores' near perfect performance on Tuesday, he improves his record to (8-6) and now holds a 2.78 ERA.

Although it was a slow night on offense, Joey Rapp stood out.

The first baseman went 3-for-3 Tuesday night. He started off with a single in the second inning. Then with one out in the fourth, Rapp hit a solo home run over the left field wall. Rapp's homer Tuesday night was his third of the season. He then finished his night with a single in the sixth inning.

The GreenJackets will wrap up their series against the Braves tomorrow night at 7:05 p.m.
