Augusta, GA-The GreenJackets closed Lake Olmstead Stadium in style with an 8-2 victory over the Charleston RiverDogs in the stadium's final game Monday night in front of 4,827 fans. The victory gave the GreenJackets their sixth win in their final seven games to close out the 2017 season.
The dominance began in the bottom of the second when Jose Vizcaino, Jacob Heyward, and Michael Bernal hit three consecutive singles to start the inning which gave the GreenJackets the early 1-0 lead. With one out, Tyler Brown was hit by pitch to load the bases. Ashford Fulmer then grounded into an RBI fielder's choice to make it 2-0 GreenJackets in the second.
With one out in the fifth, Skyler Ewing hit a two-run home run to make it 4-0. It turned out to be the last ever home run hit at Lake Olmstead Stadium. Vizcaino then added another base hit with a double. With two outs, he came in to score on another single by Bernal to extend the lead to 5-0. With one out in the sixth and the GreenJackets leading 5-1, Ashford Fulmer hit a double. Sandro Fabian hit a two-out double to score him. Ewing followed with his second extra base hit of the game, a double to score Fabian making it 7-1. With the GreenJackets leading 7-2 in the bottom of the eight, Vizcaino added his third hit with his second double to score Fabian and make it 8-2.
The GreenJackets will be back in action on April 5th, 2018 for the start of the 2018 season against the Columbia Fireflies at Spirit Communications Park. The grand opening of the brand new SRP Park will be on April 12th when the GreenJackets take on the Lexington Legends.
