With runners on second and third and one out in the bottom of the seventh, Kelvin Beltre hit a sacrifice fly to give the Augusta GreenJackets the lead. It was a lead that they would be able to hold on to in a 3-2 victory over the Charleston RiverDogs Tuesday night at Lake Olmstead Stadium.
"I was just trying to get my pitch, see what I like, and try to make contact," said Beltre on the at bat.
The RiverDogs took the early lead in the first when leadoff hitter Diego Castillo reached on a fielding error by GreenJackets third baseman Manuel Geraldo. He advanced to third on a double by Estevan Florial and then came in to score on an RBI groundout by Angel Aguilar. The RiverDogs made it 2-0 in the top of the fourth on a double by Isiah Gilliam.
With Zach Bowers on third, Anthony Marks on second, and two outs in the bottom of the fifth, Sandro Fabian appeared to have struck out to end the inning. The ball got by RiverDogs catcher Donny Sands allowing Fabian to reach first. Bowers came in to score and Marks advanced to third on the play. Beltre followed with a single to score Marks and tie the game.
"We played really good today and we were able to make the adjustments and keep the momentum going," said Beltre. "I am very happy for the kids. They did a really good job tonight."
The bottom of the seventh began when Brandon Horn drew a walk. Marks followed with a bunt single advancing Horn to second. Fabian advanced them to second and third with a sacrifice bunt setting up Beltre's winning RBI.
