Augusta, GA-After closing out the completion of the suspended game from the night before, the GreenJackets cruised to a 7-2 victory over the Columbia Fireflies Wednesday night at Lake Olmstead Stadium. The victory brought the GreenJackets to .500 in the second half.
The star of the game was starting pitcher Garrett Williams who tossed seven innings of shutout ball for the GreenJackets. He gave up only four hits and struck out five. He retired the first eight Firefly hitters he faced and did not allow a hit until there was one out in the fourth.
The GreenJackets began to pull away when Adam Sonabend hit a one out double in the bottom of the third. With two outs, Ashford Fulmer singled him home to put the GreenJackets on the board. Fulmer then stole second and came in to score on a double by Jean Angomas making it 2-0. Angomas scored on a single by Kelvin Beltre to give the GreenJackets a 3-0 lead.
The lead was expanded to 5-0 at the seventh inning stretch. With one out in the bottom of the frame, Beltre and Skyler Ewing hit back to back singles. They both came in to score on a double by Jose Vizcaino to make it 7-0 GreenJackets.
