Augusta, GA-The Augusta GreenJackets saw their three game winning streak come to an end Friday night with a 5-0 shutout loss to the Greenville Drive at Lake Olmstead Stadium. The loss dropped the GreenJackets to 18-38 on the season.
The Drive jumped on top of GreenJackets starter Domenic Mazza early, with one on and one out in the top of the first, Ryan Scott hit a triple put the Drive on top 1-0. Greenville continued to pour it on in the second when Tyler Spoon and Mitchell Gunsolus hit back to back one out singles. With two outs, Chris Madera singled home Spoon to give the Drive a 2-0 lead. The Drive added another run in the fifth on double by Tucker Tubbs making it 3-0.
Mazza finished the day going six innings and allowing three runs off of eight hits. He walked one and struck out four. Wilson Santos struck out three in two innings of relief work. Jeff Burke followed with a perfect inning in the ninth.
Greenville starter Kyle Hart was able to silence a GreenJackets offense that had scored 23 runs in its last three games (all victories). He allowed only four hits in six and two thirds innings of shutout ball. He struck out seven and walked only one. Hunter Smith completed the shutout with two and a third innings of relief work.
After Santos pitched a shutout in the seventh, the Drive were able to open it up in the eighth. Roldani Baldwin led off with a single followed by a double by Tubbs, scoring Baldwin. Tubs advanced to third on a sacrifice fly by Spoon and came in to score on a wild pitch to make it 5-0.
The GreenJackets will be back in action Saturday night for game two of the four game series with the Drive. First pitch is scheduled for 6:05pm with the gates opening at 4:30pm. It is Olympic Night, 4-H Night (Special Ticket Price and benefits going back to the 4H), and Miracle League Night featuring two teams from the Miracle League playing a thirty minute softball game on the field before the game. The first 1,000 fans into the stadium will receive a free cooling towel presented by Augusta University Health. There will also be a pregame concert by Jeff Bundy as part of the Saturday concert series. Kids 12 and under will be able to run the bases after the game.
Raffi Vizcaino (0-0, 7.20) will start on the mound for the GreenJackets against Logan Boyd (7-2, 4.03) for the Drive.
