Home Run by Tyler Horan Earns GreenJackets Victory

Augusta GreenJackets Beat Rome Braves 7-0

Augusta, GA--The Augusta GreenJackets (36-40) won their final game of the homestand against the Rome Braves (26-52) on Thursday night. Strong pitching from GreenJackets starting pitcher Steven Messner and explosive offense from the GreenJacket solidified their 7-0 victory.

The GreenJackets took the lead in the first, when right fielder, Tyler Horan, singled up the middle. The team scored another three runs in the second inning. A fielding error by Rome drove in the first run and a single by Tyler Horan drove in runs two and three.   

The score held until the fourth inning when the GreenJackets put three more runs on the board. Back to back singles drove in the first run. Tyler Horan hit a two run home run to center field on a 2-1 pitch with two outs. It was Horan's eighth home run of the season. 

GreenJackets starting pitcher Steven Messner (5-2) earned the win with eight innings pitched and allowing eight hits. Messner issued no walks and struck out three batters. While Messner earned the win, Braves starting pitcher Steve Janas (2-2) took the loss. In four innings pitched he gave up eight hits, allowed seven runs including a home run. Janas walked one batter and struck out three.  

The GreenJackets head to Lexington, Kentucky for a four game series against the Lexington Legends followed by a three game series in Rome against the Rome Braves.
