Grizzlies sweep Saturday doubleheader from Isotopes

Kemp goes 3-for-4 and Stubbs goes 2-for-3 (3 RBI) in 5-3 win

The Fresno Grizzlies (69-51) swept a doubleheader from the Albuquerque Isotopes (58-61) with a 5-3 win in game two on Saturday. Garrett Stubbs (2-for-3) drove in three of the five Fresno runs with his second multi-hit game and third multi-RBI game in just his seventh Triple-A appearance.
The Grizzlies scored their first run in the opening frame on a Stubbs RBI single. In the third, Tony Kemp (3-for-4) led off the inning with a double and scored on a Preston Tucker groundout before an A.J. Reed RBI single drove home Tyler White (single). The final two Fresno runs came off the bat of Stubbs when a two-run single scored Kemp (single) and White (walk) in the fifth.
Albuquerque tallied their first run to tie the contest 1-1 in the first when a Noel Cuevas (2-for-4) RBI triple scored Mike Tauchman who doubled to get on. With the Grizzlies up 3-1 after the third, a Tom Murphy RBI double put the home team within one. Once Fresno was up 5-2, Cuevas drove in another run with a double to make the final score 5-3 in the bottom of the fifth.
Fresno starter David Martinez struck out four through 4.1 IP while allowing three runs on eight hits and two walks. Reliever Jordan Jankowski (2-3) finished out the fifth inning to earn the win for the Grizzlies, while Jumbo Díaz picked up his second save of the season in relief in the seventh, the final frame. For the Isotopes, starter Thad Weber (1-6) suffered the loss through three innings allowing three runs on five hits and a walk with three strikeouts.
The Grizzlies and the Isotopes will play the third game of the four-game series at Isotopes Park on Sunday at 5:05 p.m. PT. Fresno RHP Trent Thornton (6-2, 5.24) will be on the mound to face Albuquerque RHP Yency Almonte (1-0, 5.82).
