Petit went 6 innings giving up 1H with 8Ks

Grizzlies beat the Aces 3-1
August 19, 2013

Fresno, Ca.--It was a long night of baseball at Chukchansi Park. But in the end it was the Fresno Grizzlies (62-67) who scored three times in the bottom of the seventh inning, defeating the Reno Aces (51-79) 3-1 on Monday night.

The game was delayed in the bottom of the first inning for an hour, and 24 minutes because of a rain delay, which also featured a lightning show. When play resumed, it was Fresno right-handed pitcher Yusmeiro Petit against Reno righty Charles Brewer. Brewer was on in relief of lefty Joe Paterson who started, and got the first out of the first before the delay.

Petit pitched hitless ball until the sixth when Reno third baseman Taylor Harbin came through with Aces first hit. Petit allowed just one hit in six innings, he did not issue a walk, and he struck out eight.

Reno scored the game's first run in the seventh. Center fielder Brad Snyder doubled, and then he scored on a single by left fielder Juan Rivera. However, the Grizzlies took the lead for good scoring three times in the bottom of the inning. First baseman Johnny Monell (19) led off with a homer to center. Then the game-deciding hit came on a two-run two-out single to right by pinch hitter Guillermo Quiroz. Although he did not allow the hit to Quiroz, Brewer (5-11) suffered the loss. He gave up three runs (two earned) in 5 2/3 innings.

Right-hander Heath Hembree (30) pitched a perfect ninth for the save--his third save of this series all of which have been perfect innings.

Fresno has won three-of-the-first-four games of this series. The final game if this five-game set will be at 7:05 p.m. on Tuesday at Chukchansi Park. Left-hander Tyler Skaggs (6-8) will start for Reno against Fresno lefty Eric Surkamp (5-1). Fresno leads the season-series 8-7 over Reno.
