G-Braves Add Infielder Elmer Reyes

Braves' highly-touted shortstop promoted from Double-A Mississippi

LAWRENCEVILLE, GA - The Gwinnett Braves, in conjunction with the Atlanta Braves, have announced the addition of infielder Elmer Reyes to the Gwinnett 25-man roster from Double-A Mississippi.

Reyes, 23, hit .303 (64-for-211) with 16 doubles, one triple, two home runs and 28 RBIs in 58 games for Mississippi. His strong performance in the first half of the season earned him Southern League All-Star honors, as he started and played the entire game for South Division team.

Originally signed as a non-drafted free agent on May 19, 2009, the right-handed hitting Reyes has combined to bat .264 with 120 doubles, 17 triples, 20 home runs, 201 RBIs and 31 stolen bases in 505 minor league games over six seasons. Known as a slick-fielding shortstop, Reyes turned in his best season at the plate in 2013, batting .285 with 30 doubles, four triples, five home runs and 60 RBIs for Advanced-A Lynchburg. He was added to Atlanta's 40-man roster at the end of the 2013 season.

The Gwinnett Braves open a two-game series against the Charlotte Knights tonight at Coolray Field, first pitch scheduled for 7:05 PM. Atlanta Braves' right-hander David Carpenter is slated to make a minor league rehab start for the G-Braves, while the Knights will counter with right-hander Erik Johnson (1-5, 6.38). Tony Schiavone will have the play-by-play call beginning at 6:50 PM on WDUN.com, GwinnettBraves.com, Tune-In Radio and the MiLB First Pitch app. The game will also be televised on the MeTV network, WSB-TV Channel 2.2 with broadcasters Mike Morgan, Dave Lezotte and Van Earl Wright.
