Janish Starts Rehab Assignment with Gwinnett

Atlanta Braves shortstop Paul Janish is recovering from left shoulder surgery
April 15, 2013

LAWRENCEVILLE, GA - The Gwinnett Braves, in conjunction with the Atlanta Braves, have announced the addition of shortstop Paul Janish to the Gwinnett 25-man roster.  Janish begins an injury rehabilitation assignment with the G-Braves, his first live game action since undergoing surgery to repair his dislocated left shoulder on October 8, 2012.

Janish, 30, was acquired by the Braves on July 14, 2012 from Cincinnati in a deal that sent former G-Braves' pitcher Todd Redmond to the Reds.  After hitting .237 (40-for-169) with four home runs and 11 RBI in 49 games for Triple-A Louisville, he joined the Braves' Major League roster and hit .186 (31-for-167) with nine RBI in 55 games.  Janish suffered the dislocation on September 18, 2012 at Miami and missed the remainder of the season.  He signed a one-year contract to remain with the Braves for the 2013 season on October 11, 2012.

Originally selected by the Reds in the fifth round of the 2004 June free agent draft, Janish is a career .259 (495-for-539) hitter in the minor leagues, including 108 doubles, nine triples, 37 home runs, 221 RBI and 35 stolen bases.  He's also spent parts of five seasons at the Major League level, including 2008-11 with Cincinnati and 2012 with the Braves.  For his big-league career, he's a .216 (224-for-1039) hitter, including 53 doubles, two triples, seven home runs, 79 RBI and seven stolen bases.

Regarded as an excellent defender at shortstop, Janish committed just two errors in 231 chances for the Braves last season, a .991 fielding percentage.

The Gwinnett Braves (5-6) open a four-game series against the Norfolk Tides (6-5) at Coolray Field tonight, first pitch scheduled for 6:05 PM.  It's a "Kids Eat Free Night" where all kids 12 and under will receive a voucher good for a hot dog, chips and a small soda.  Listen to the broadcast with Tony Schiavone calling the play-by-play on WDUN 550 AM and 102.9 FM.

Tickets for all Gwinnett Braves home games are on sale now at the Coolray Field Box Office.  Call (678) 277-0340 or visit for more information.
