Toussaint Delivers Another Quality Start in Win vs. Bisons

LAWRENCEVILLE, Ga. - Gwinnett right-hander Touki Toussaint fanned nine Buffalo Bisons over 6.0 one-run innings to lead the Stripers to a 5-1 victory Saturday at Coolray Field.

With the win, Gwinnett improved to 4-2 against Buffalo with one game remaining, clinching a season-series victory for the sixth straight year.
Toussaint (W, 3-0), making his first start for Gwinnett since his Major League debut with the Atlanta Braves on August 13, allowed an RBI double to Anthony Alford in the third at-bat of the game before getting through the next 5.2 innings unharmed.
He gave up just the one earned run on five hits and a walk, recording his fourth quality start in six Triple-A outings. The 22-year-old has allowed three runs or less in all six of his starts.
The Stripers took the lead for good in the second inning. Michael Reed and Rio Ruiz started with back-to-back singles against left-hander Shawn Morimando, making his first start for Buffalo. After two outs, Lane Adams ripped a two-run single up the middle for a 2-1 lead.
In the sixth, Dustin Peterson hit a two-run home run (10) off reliever Jacob Waguespack to make it 4-1. It was Peterson's first home run since July 16 against the Indianapolis Indians. The Stripers tacked on an insurance run in the eighth with a Reed RBI single for the 5-1 final.
Chase Whitley (H, 1) relieved Toussaint in the seventh, pitching 2.0 scoreless innings with three strikeouts. Jacob Webb got the final three outs.
Reed finished with a packed stat line for Gwinnett, going 3-for-4 with an RBI and two runs scored. Adams was 2-for-3 with two RBIs.
Morimando (L, 1-4) gave up two runs on four hits over 3.0 innings. Waguespack went 5.0 innings in relief, allowing four hits, three earned runs and two walks with two strikeouts.
Alford went 3-for-4 with an RBI and Gunnar Heidt both went 2-for-4 for the Bisons.
Gwinnett (60-62) goes for the series win Sunday at 1:05 p.m. with right-hander Kyle Wright (2-1, 2.89 ERA) on the mound. Buffalo (57-65) will go with righty Mike Hauschild (8-6, 4.82 ERA). Tony Schiavone will have the play-by-play call on 97.7 and 93.5 FM "The Other Side of the River" beginning at 12:35 p.m.
