HAGERSTOWN, Md. - Nick Banks homered for the second straight game, Matt DeRosier earned the win after pitching into the seventh, and Gabe Klobosits picked up his first save as the Hagerstown Suns (34-32, 72-63) secured a winning record in the second half with a 4-3 victory over the Lexington Legends (62-74, 28-39) on Sunday afternoon at Municipal Stadium.
Banks led the Suns with three RBI and opened the scoring with a sacrifice fly that scored Carter Kieboom in the bottom of the first against Lexington starter Ofreidy Gomez (Loss, 7-12). The 22-year-old outfielder from Tomball, Texas gave the Suns a 4-2 lead on his seventh home run of the season with a shot to center in the fourth inning that scored Tres Barrera and earned Banks his sixth RBI in the last two games.
DeRosier (Win, 3-4) allowed an RBI single to Emmanuel Rivera in the first and cost himself the lead on an errant throw to third base that allowed Meibrys Viloria to score from second and tied the game at 2-2 in the second frame. DeRosier settled down nicely in the third and pitched four scoreless innings before Joe Dudek pressed him out of the ballgame with an RBI single in the seventh to reduce the Suns lead, 4-3.
DeRosier finished with seven hits and two earned runs allowed thanks to Alex Troop , who entered from the bullpen and stranded the tying run at second base in the seventh. The left-handed reliever from Michigan State earned his first hold with the Suns after tossing two hitless innings with a strikeout.
2017 Washington Nationals draftee Gabe Klobosits picked up his first save with Hagerstown after he struck out a pair and stranded the tying run at first following a two-out walk in the ninth. The 22-year-old native of Katy, Texas has now fanned 11 batters in his first five innings of relief work for the Suns.
The Suns will chase a fourth consecutive win to close out the 2017 South Atlantic League season on Labor Day at 2:05 p.m. Hagerstown lefty Ben Braymer (2-2, 5.97) goes to the mound against Lexington righty Gerson Garabito (4-4, 2.71).
