Beckwith delivers as Suns top Grasshoppers 2-1

HAGERSTOWN, Md. - The Hagerstown Suns (77-54) made their hits count in the series opening, 2-1 win over the Greensboro Grasshoppers (65-65) on Friday at Municipal Stadium.

In his first game with Hagerstown, Tyler Beckwith had the game-winning hit with a two-run single in the seventh inning.

The Grasshoppers' starting pitcher, Trevor Richards (2-1), threw six hitless innings.

The Suns had just two hits, both in the seventh inning.

Stone Garrett had the first hit of the game with a single in the top of the fourth inning and advanced to second base on a wild pitch. Garrett moved up to third base on a groundout by Isael Soto and scored on a single by Angel Reyes to put Greensboro on the scoreboard for their only run of the game.

With one out in the bottom of the seventh inning, Rhett Wiseman was hit by a pitch and Jake Noll singled to left-center field to break up Greensboro's no-hitter. 

With two outs and Beckwith at the plate, runners moved up to second and third base on a wild pitch before Beckwith hit the go-ahead two-run single.

Winning pitcher, Grant Borne (4-2), allowed one hit through 2.1 innings.

Tommy Peterson got the final two outs, earning his seventh save.

Hagerstown's Taylor Guilbeau (3-2, 3.95) will face Greensboro's Justin Jacome (1-3, 2.96) in the second game of the series on Saturday at Municipal Stadium. First pitch is scheduled for 7:05 p.m. ET
