Hagerstown extends Delmarva's losing streak to six games

HAGERSTOWN, Md. - The Delmarva Shorebirds (63-63) fell to the Hagerstown Suns (75-53), 4-2, on Tuesday at Municipal Stadium.

Hagerstown out-hit Delmarva 10-4. 

After the first game of the series opened up with two scoreless innings, Hagerstown jumped on top with a run in the third inning on a fielder's choice.

Randy Encarnacion led off the bottom of the inning with a double and advanced to third on a fly out by Ian Sagdal. With one out, Encarnacion beat out the throw home as Kelvin Gutierrez reached first and gathered the RBI.

The Suns led the Shorebirds through the fourth inning, but the Shorebirds scored two runs in the fifth inning to take the lead.

With two outs, Cedric Mullins walked and scored on a triple to right field by Ryan Mountcastle. Mountcastle scored the go ahead run on a wild pitch by Suns' starter, Tyler Watson.

The Suns trailed by one run through the next two innings, but scored three runs in the eighth inning to go back on top, 4-2.

With one out, Sagdal doubled to right-center field and advanced to third base on a single by Gutierrez.

Sagdal scored the tying run on a wild pitch and the Suns went ahead on an RBI double by Rhett Wiseman.

Wiseman scored on a single by Jake Noll for the final run of the inning.

Winning pitcher, James Bourque (5-6), held Delmarva to one hit through three innings.

Bourque relieved Watson to start the sixth inning after Watson's first start for Hagerstown.

Tommy Peterson dominated the ninth inning, striking out all three batters to earn his sixth save.

Delmarva will send Cristian Alvarado (9-8, 3.41) to the mound to face Hagerstown's Joan Baez (7-7, 4.31) in the second game of the series on Wednesday at Municipal Stadium. First pitch is slotted for 7:05 p.m.
