HAGERSTOWN, Md. - The Hagerstown Suns, Class A affiliate of the Washington Nationals, announce the promotion of second baseman Jake Noll to the Potomac Nationals (Class A Advanced). In a corresponding move, the Suns received second baseman Branden Boggetto from the Auburn Doubledays (Class A Short Season).
Noll earned his first promotion to the Class A Advanced level after leading the Suns with 67 runs batted in during 108 SAL games this season. The 23-year-old native of Punta Gorda, Florida made 87 starts at second base and led the Suns active roster with 16 home runs following the promotion of Daniel Johnson (17 home runs) to Potomac on July 24. The Nationals selected Noll from Florida Gulf Coast during the seventh round of the 2016 MLB First-Year Player Draft. Noll is batting .270 with 19 doubles, 12 stolen bases, and a .759 OPS in 2017.
Boggetto joins the Suns for the first time in his second professional season. The 23-year-old from Joliet, Illinois batted .313 with two home runs, nine doubles, and 24 RBI in 41 games for the Doubledays. Boggetto started 29 games at second base in Auburn. He was a four-year starter at shortstop for Southeast Missouri State before the Nationals drafted him in the 25th round last year. In 2016, Boggetto played 32 games for the Gulf Coast League Nationals and posted a .280 batting average with three homers, five doubles, and 16 RBI.
Hagerstown is currently in a second-place tie with the Greensboro Grasshoppers, three games behind the first-place Hickory Crawdads with 17 games remaining. On Friday, the Suns return to Municipal Stadium to begin a seven-game homestand with four games against the Kannapolis Intimidators. The Suns are partnering with Potomac Edison to light up the skies above Hagerstown during a postgame fireworks spectacular on Friday night.
