Suns blanked by Sand Gnats in game three

SAVANNAH, G.A. - The Hagerstown Suns (1-2) had no answer for a dominant Savannah Sand Gnats (2-1) pitching staff for a second straight game, losing 6-0 in game three of the South Atlantic League Championship Series. The Sand Gnats now control the series two games to one.

 

Starting RHP Gabriel Ynoa (2-0) got the win for Savannah by tossing seven innings and allowing four hits and one walk while striking out five. Starting LHP Kylin Turnbull (1-1) suffered the loss for the Suns. He pitched five innings, giving up six earned runs on nine hits while walking two and striking out three.

 

Savannah kicked off its scoring in the second inning. Second baseman Dilson Herrera led off with a walk. First baseman Cole Frenzel followed with a single to right, which pushed Herrera to third, and Frenzel moved to second on the throw to third to try and get Herrera. Left fielder Stefan Sabol drove Herrera in with a sacrifice fly to right, which also pushed Frenzel from second to third. Frenzel scored when 3B Jeff Reynolds hit a line drive single up the middle to make it 2-0.

 

The Sand Gnats plated two more runs in the fourth. With a runner at first and two outs Sabol smacked a triple to center field to drive in the first run of the frame. Sabol then scored on another single by Reynolds to put Savannah up 4-0.

 

The Sand Gnats upped their lead to 5-0 in the fifth. Designated hitter Eudy Pina sent a one-out single into left field. A single by CF Brandon Nimmo allowed Pina to go to third. De La Cruz then sent a sacrifice fly to center field to score Pina.

 

The final Savannah run scored in the sixth. Frenzel led off with a line drive single up the middle. He was pushed to second when Sabol walked. Reynolds then drove Frenzel home with a single up the middle, his third RBI single in three at-bats.

 

The Suns and Sand Gnats continue their best-of-five championship series with game four in Savannah on Friday, September 13. First pitch is scheduled for 7:05p.m. Hagerstown will send RHP Dakota Bacus (1-0, 0.00) to the mound for his first start of the playoffs. He will go up against LHP Steven Matz (5-6, 2.62) for Savannah.
