(July 6,

HAGERSTOWN, Md. (July 6, 2017) - Continuing rainstorms forced the Hagerstown Suns and Greensboro Grasshoppers to cancel the final two games of their three-game series at Municipal Stadium. The South Atlantic League Northern Division foes are not scheduled to meet again during the 2017 season so the two games will not be made up at a later date.
The Suns and 'Hoppers postponed their Wednesday contest due to rain and planned to play a makeup doubleheader on Thursday afternoon, but both games were called off due to ongoing rain and wet grounds.
Seven Suns home dates have been washed away by rain in 42 scheduled gate openings at Municipal Stadium this season; the most among all 14 SAL teams. The Augusta GreenJackets, Columbia Fireflies, Kannapolis Intimidators, and West Virginia Power are all tied for second-most openings lost with four closures each. Rain also suspended a Suns home game against the Delmarva Shorebirds in the top of the second inning on April 20. The Suns postponed four home games during the entire 2016 season.
Fans holding tickets for Thursday's games may exchange those tickets at the Municipal Stadium box office for any other Suns regular season home game in 2017. For more information on Suns ticketing, call (301) 791-6266.
Hagerstown currently leads the SAL Northern Division second-half standings with a 10-3 record since the All-Star Break. On Friday, the Suns open a four-game series in Kannapolis, North Carolina at 7:05 p.m. The Suns return home to Municipal Stadium in Hagerstown on Wednesday, July 12 at 7:05 p.m. for the first of three games against the Charleston RiverDogs, Class A affiliate of the New York Yankees.
