HAGERSTOWN, MD (August 20, 2019) - The Suns pitching staff held the Drive to only one run on four hits in their 4-1 win over Greenville at Municipal Stadium Tuesday.
Reid Schaller (W, 3-3) got the start for Hagerstown (58-69, 28-29) and rolled through five innings. The righty allowed only one run on three hits with that one runner crossing the plate on a double play in the fifth.

Alfonso Hernandez (S, 1) took the ball next and stole the show. The lefty finished off the victory, pitching four scoreless innings out of the bullpen and picking up his first save of the season. Hernandez allowed only one hit and struck out eight Greenville (52-74, 20-36) batters. The eight punchouts matches the season-high for a Suns reliever this season.
The Suns were able to manufacture a run to open the scoring in the first inning. Justin Connell delivered a one-out double, stole third and then scored on a Drew Mendoza sacrifice fly.
In the fourth, the miscues started to hurt Greenville. With Mendoza at third and two outs in the fourth, catcher Alan Marrero was unable to handle a knuckleball from Drive starter Kevin Biondic (L, 4-7). The passed ball allowed Mendoza to score and gave the Suns a 2-0 lead.
Hagerstown extended the lead in the fifth with the help of some shaky Greenville defense. Jacob Rhinesmith's RBI double made it 3-1, and then came across to score on back-to-back throwing errors by Marrero.
Robbie Baker and Yorvin Pantoja each worked scoreless frames in relief for the Drive after Biondic lasted six innings, but the Hagerstown pitching didn't let Greenville even sniff a comeback.
The Suns continue their series with the Drive tomorrow at 7:05 p.m. Hagerstown sends RHP Joan Adon (11-3, 4.05 ERA) to hill while Greenville counters with RHP Chase Shugart (6-4, 2.58 ERA).
The Suns are the midst of a six-game homestand against the Greenville Drive and Delmarva Shorebirds August 20-25. The stretch is full of great promotions including Bark in the Park, Thirsty Thursday, Fireworks Night, a Mike Mussina Bobblehead and much more!
