Hammerheads Announce 2017 Coaching Staff

Jupiter- The Jupiter Hammerheads, High-A Affiliate of the Miami Marlins, announced on Friday their 2017 coaching staff.

Kevin Randel has been named Manager of High-A Jupiter. His coaching staff will be: Pitching Coach Jeremy Powell; Hitting Coach Rey Noriega; Coach Jose Ceballos; Athletic Trainer Ben Cates and Strength & Conditioning Coach Tyler Grisdale.

Randel has spent the past two seasons as the skipper for Low-A Greensboro where he compiled a record of 116-163. Prior to his time with the Grasshoppers, he spent three seasons as hitting coach for Double-A Jacksonville and two years (2010-11) as hitting coach for Greensboro. A former 13th round selection by the Marlins in 2002, Randel spent eight seasons as a player in the Marlins organization from 2002-2009. 

Jeremy Powell returns for his second season as the Hammerheads Pitching Coach, marking his sixth season with the Marlins. Prior to joining the Hammerheads in 2016, he spent two seasons as the pitching coach for Greensboro from 2014-2015 and the prior two seasons before that as the pitching coach for the GCL Marlins. 

Rey Noriega will enter his first season as a coach in the Marlins organization. The former Miami Hurricane product was drafted by the Yankees in 1989, and spent 4 seasons as a player in the Yankees and White Sox organizations.

Former Hammerheads catcher Jose Ceballos will enter his first season as a coach with the squad. Ceballos spent seven seasons as a player in the Marlins organization from 2007-2013, and last year as a coach with Kevin Randel in Greensboro. 

Ben Cates begins his third season as Athletic Trainer for Jupiter, following three seasons with Greensboro in the same role. 

Rounding out the staff will be Strength and Conditioning Coach Tyler Grisdale.
