Jupiter, FL- (April 28, 2017) Cody Poteet (2-0 1.33 ERA) had another solid outing pitching six innings, giving up one run on four hits, while striking out four to help lead the Hammerheads over Roger Dean Stadium rival Palm Beach 4-1 Friday night.
Poteet didn't allow a Cardinal base runner to reach past second base until the fifth inning, when Magneuris Sierra would tag up from second base on a fly out to right field. Sierra would score on a Casey Turgeon single, which was the lone Cardinal run of the game.
Dexter Kjerstad was the main source of offense for Jupiter, driving in three of the four runs, including a two run single in the first that brought home Kyle Barrett and Stone Garrett. Kjerstad would pick up his third RBI in the third inning, when Stone Garrett scored on a ground out to first.
The Hammerheads added their final run in the fourth inning. Zach Sullivan led off the inning with a triple to left that was inches from clearing the fence for a homerun. Sullivan would score when Kyle Barrett laid a bunt down the third base line, which he beat out for an infield single.
Jose Quijada came into relieve Cody Poteet, throwing two scoreless innings, including striking out the side in the seventh. Jeff Kinley would pitch a perfect ninth inning to pick up his second save of the season.
The Hammerheads now take a 1-0 lead in the Fins vs Feathers rivalry. Both teams will go at it again tomorrow, with first pitch scheduled for 5:30. Jupiter will send lefty Scott Squier to the hill where he'll be opposed by Cardinal righty Ryan Helsley.
