Jupiter is silenced by Bradenton

Adkins records 5 shutout innings with 4 K's.
August 23, 2016

Jupiter, FL - The Hammerheads (62-64, 31-27) took two out of three from Fort Myers over the weekend in a very well-pitched series on the west coast of Florida. Jupiter looked to continue the consistency that has landed them in the thick of the playoff race.

The Hammerheads were stifled by Bradenton starting pitcher Nick Kingham (W, 2-0 - 0.00 ERA) as he set down seven by way of a strikeout and allowed five hits, but no runs and just one walk in the 3-0 victory for the Marauders.

Tanner Anderson (H, 3) worked two innings scoreless and was just as effective as Kingham, retiring two strikeouts and surrendering just one hit along with a scoreless delivery. Sam Street (S, 1) earned his first save of the season with one inning, walked two batters and struck out one giving up just one hit keeping the Hammerheads scoreless.

Jeremias Pineda and John Norwood were the two bright spots in the batting order, both recorded two hits on the day. Pineda doubled for his sixth time this season, but the offense left 8 on-base and went just 1-for-6 with runners in scoring position and could not stretch a run across.

Hunter Adkins made his first start as a Hammerhead after being transferred of option to Jupiter today, working five innings of shutout baseball, allowed just three hits and struck out four batters. It was his first appearance from the mound with Jupiter since April 17th in which after three mound offerings with the Hammerheads Adkins made the jump to Double-A Jacksonville.

Taylor Ard and Avery Romero tallied the only other two hits in the order, each went 1-for-3 on the night as the Sharks struck out 10 times. The strikeout has been a big issue for the Hammerheads as of late, tallying 13 strikeouts batting against Fort Myers in a game two loss 7-4 on the road.
