Jupiter, FL (May 11, 2017)- The Hammerheads have snapped their six game skid, thanks in part to Angel Reyes' three hit game, defeating the Mets Thursday night 4-2.
Batting second in the lineup, the Hammerheads' second basemen went 3-4 at the plate, including a two-run homerun in the sixth inning to help propel Jupiter over their Southern Division rivals.
The Hammerheads took the lead early in the first inning, where Mets starter Justin Dunn (1-3 6.89 ERA) had his struggles. Reyes singled and advanced to third on a Stone Garrett double that was hit into the left-centerfield gap. Reyes would score when next batter Brad Haynal grounded out to give Jupiter a 1-0 lead. Garrett would single in his next at-bat during the bottom of the third inning to give Jupiter a 2-0 advantage.
St. Lucie picked up a run in the sixth, when John Mora stole third base and advanced home on a wild throw by catcher Roy Morales.
The Mets would make things interesting in the ninth inning, putting the tying and go-ahead run on base. Andy Beltre gave up back-to-back singles to put runners on the corners and nobody out. Next batter Nick Sergakis would strike out swinging for the first out of the inning. Beltre would then walk Vinny Siena to load the bases for Dan Rizzie. Rizzie popped out to third for the second out of the inning, bringing up Enmanuel Zabala, who struck out to end the game.
Felipe Gonzalez (3-3 4.76 ERA) picked up the win, with Beltre recording his third save of the season.
Game two of this three game set is tomorrow, with first pitch scheduled for 6:30 PM. Righty Trevor Richards (3-2 2.76 ERA) will get the start for Jupiter. He'll be opposed by Nabil Crismatt (1-3 4.64 ERA)
