Senators Sweep Weekly Eastern League Awards

Demny and Rendon win weekly awards

The Harrisburg Senators swept the weekly (May 6 - May 12) Eastern League awards with Paul Demny being named the Pitcher of the Week and Anthony Rendon the Player of the Week. Demny is the second Senators pitcher to win the award this season and Rendon is the first player. 

The 22-year old Rendon batted .500 (12-for-24) with six doubles, two home runs, eight RBI, five runs scored, six walks and a 1.600 slugging percentage in seven games for the Senators last week. Rendon, who is a native of Richmond, Texas, had five multiple hit games during the week and drove in or scored at least one run in six games. The 6'0", 195 lb. slugger led all Eastern League players in doubles (6), extra-base hits (8), total bases (24), slugging percentage (1.000) and OPS (1.600) last week. He also finished among the weekly leaders in RBI (8-tied 1st), walks (6-tied 1st), hits (12-2nd), on-base percentage (.600-2nd), batting average (.500-tied 2nd), home runs (2-tied 5th) and runs scored (5-tied 5th). With his performance last week, Rendon raised his batting average to .354 on the season, which currently leads the league. He also leads the league in slugging percentage (.633) and on-base percentage (.500). Anthony, who entered the 2013 season rated by as the top prospect in the Washington organization, was selected by the Washington Nationals with the sixth overall pick in the first round of the 2011 draft out of Rice University.

Demny, the 6'2", 200 lb. hurler, made one start for the Senators last week and had a record of 1-0 with five strikeouts and a 0.00 ERA. Demny, who is a native of East Bernard, Texas, made his lone appearance of the week on Thursday night at Binghamton and combined with Ian Krol to put their names into the Harrisburg record books, throwing the first nine-inning no-hitter for the Senators since the 2003 season. Demny pitched the first eight innings of the game and had five strikeouts and three walks in a 6-1 victory, with the lone Binghamton run scoring in the seventh inning on a double play groundout following a walk and a throwing error. The 23-year old led all Eastern League pitchers in batting average against (.000) last week, and also ranked among the weekly leaders in ERA (0.00-tied 1st), WHIP (0.38-2nd) and wins (1-tied 3rd). Paul, who had a 6-8 record with 97 strikeouts and a 5.46 ERA over 123.2 innings in 28 games in his Double-A debut with Harrisburg last season, was selected by the Washington Nationals in the sixth round of the 2008 draft out of Blinn Junior College in Texas.
