Sens Hang On For 6-5 Win Over Richmond

The Harrisburg Senators edged the Richmond Flying Squirrels 6-5 on Sunday afternoon at FNB Field. The Senators led by five runs early and held on late for the series victory.

Luigi Rodriguez led off the game with a home run off Senators starter Kyle McGowin to put the Richmond on top 1-0. 
The Senators responded with a run in the first to tie the game. Hunter Jones was hit by a pitch to start the frame and he advanced to third on an errant pick-off throw by Richmond starter Garrett Williams. One batter later, Dan Gamache hit an RBI groundout to second to score the Senators' first run. 
The Senators took the lead in the third on an Adam Brett Walker RBI double to plate Gutierrez, who led off the frame with a single. 
The Senators plated four in the fourth to break the game open. With Zach Collier at third and McGowin are first on a pair of walks, Jones lined an RBI single to right to double the Senators lead. After the next-batter Gutierrez walked, Dan Gamache ripped a two-run double to left-center. Taylor Gushue finished the scoring in the frame with sacrifice fly to center to make it 6-1 Senators. 
After scoring a run in the fifth on a run-scoring fielder's choice, the Flying Squirrels sliced the Senators lead in half with a pair of runs in the seventh. Miguel Gómez plated the first run with an RBI single while Ali Castillo scored the second run a wild pitch by reliever Kaleb Fleck. 
Richmond rallied to cut the lead to one in the ninth when Miguel Gomez doubled in a run. With the tying run at second, Roman Mendez retired Aramis Garcia on a fly ball to right to seal the 6-5 win and notch his fourth save. 
McGowin (5-1) earned the win after allowing four runs, three earned, on seven hits while striking out nine and walking one across six innings. The right-hander was removed from the game after the first two batters reached to start seventh.
Williams (2-5) allowed four runs, three earned, on two hits, five walks and a pair of hit batters in three and a third frames. 
Gamache went 2-4 with a double, triple and three RBI to pace the Senators offense. 
After an off-day on Monday, the Senators finish the homestand with a four-game series against the Bowie Baysox which starts Tuesday night. Wirkin Estevez starts the series opener for the Senators.
