Hartford, Conn - Brenton Doyle hit a two-run homer, and a six-run fifth inning marked eight unanswered runs for the Yard Goats in an 8-3 win over the Rumble Ponies at Dunkin Donuts Park on Friday night. Jimmy Herron also went deep, and Nick Bush struck out five over six innings to get the win for Hartford.

In the third inning, Binghamton got two runners aboard with one out for third baseman Brett Baty. The Mets’ No. 2 prospect hit his second home run of the series to right to put Rumble Ponies ahead, 3-0.

Binghamton righthander Alec Kisena kept the Yard Goats’ offense in check through the first three innings. In the fourth, Jimmy Herron led off with a single, and with one out Brenton Doyle crushed an opposite field home run to right — his second in as many days — to make it 3-2.

In the bottom of the fifth, Tyler Hill and Isaac Collins walked to put runners on for Hunter Stovall. The shortstop ripped a double into left for his seventh hit in 15 at-bats this series to tie the game at 3. Jimmy Herron followed by hammering a curveball past all the seats in left-center field for a three-run homer. Kyle Datres doubled home Doyle two batters later, and Willie MacIver completed the five-run barrage with an RBI single. It was the second time in as many days that Hartford had batted around in an inning.

Stovall also singled in the sixth inning, raising his average to .500 since the start of the second half. Riley Pint and PJ Poulin combined for three scoreless innings of relief, making it seven consecutive innings without allowing a run.

The Yard Goats (3-1) and Rumble Ponies (1-3) play again tomorrow, July 2 (6:05 ET) at Dunkin’ Donuts Park. RHP Noah Davis starts for Hartford, and RHP Jose Butto will start for Binghamton. The game will be broadcast on Newsradio 1410 WPOP.
