June 20, 2016

ALTOONA- The Altoona Curve broke open a close game with a seven-run eighth inning to dismantle the Hartford Yard Goats, 11-3, Saturday night, before 7,449 fans at PNG Field. Altoona banged out 17 hits against four Hartford pitchers.

The Yard Goats battled back from a three-run deficit to tie the game, on a two-run homer by Raimel Tapia and an RBI single by David Dahl. But the Curve scored a run in the seventh and sent 10 men to the plate in the eighth, scoring seven runs.

Pat Valaika and Zach Osborne had two hits each for Hartford.   Tapia's home run extended his hitting streak to nine games.

Jose Osuna continued his torrid hitting against Hartford, going 4-for-4.   He is 6-for-6 in the series. The Pittsburgh Pirates first round draft choice in 2015, shortstop Kevin Newman, made his AA debut and was 2-for-4 with two RBI.

The deciding game in the three-game series is Sunday night at 6:00 PM. The Yard Goats will send (LHP) Kyle Freeland to the mound. The game will be broadcast on News Radio 1410, WPOP and streaming on the iHeart media app.
