Davis Deals and Herron Homers as Yard Goats Start Road Trip with Win

Noah Davis hurled seven solid innings to earn his first Double-A victory, and Jimmy Herron supported him with a three-run home run as the Hartford Yard Goats started their two-city 12-game road trip with a 7-3 victory against the Bowie Baysox at Prince George’s Stadium in Maryland. Herron’s fifth homer highlighted a four-run second inning off Baysox starter Ryan Watson. Five different players had multiple hit games for Harford including Jack Blomgren who joined the club today. The Yard Goats have won 11 of their last 15 games and return to Dunkin’ Donuts Park in Hartford on May 31st.

Bowie scored the first two runs of the game in the first inning as Gunner Henderson belted a two-run homer off Noah Davis. The Yard Goats responded with a four-run second inning off Baysox starter Ryan Watson. Brenton Doyle opened the inning with a double, and came home on Willie MacIver’s RBI single to make it 2-1. Jack Blomgren singled, setting the table for Jimmy Herron’s line drive homer over the right field fence, giving the Yard Goats a 4-2 lead.

The Yard Goats added two runs in the third inning. Niko Decolati’s RBI double scored Kyle Datres to give Hartford a 5-2 lead. Later in the inning, Aaron Schunk’s sacrifice fly scored Willie MacIver to make it 6-2. Bowie got a run back in the fifth inning as Gunner Henderson hit his second homer of the game, a solo shot over the left field fence and it was 6-3.

Yard Goats starter Noah Davis pitched a season-high seven innings and allowed just three runs for his first Eastern League victory. He did not allow a hit past the fifth inning and retired eight of the final nine batters faced. In addition, he retired the leadoff hitter from the third through seventh innings.

The Yard Goats continue a six-game series with the Orioles affiliate, the Bowie Baysox, on Wednesday night at 6:35. RHP Karl Kauffmann will start for the Yard Goats and RHP Dean Kremer will start for the Baysox on a MLB rehab assignment from the Orioles. The game will be broadcast on Newsradio 1410 WPOP. The Yard Goats return to Dunkin' Donuts Park on Tuesday, May 31st at 7:05 to host the Phillies affiliate, the Reading Fightin Phils.
