Five Run Inning Helps Yard Goats to Road Victory

Bowie, MD- The Yard Goats scored five runs in the fourth inning, highlighted by back-to-back home runs by Sean Bouchard and Taylor Snyder, and defeated the Bowie Baysox 6-3 on Tuesday night at Prince George’s Stadium in Bowie, Maryland. It was the first game of a six-game road trip and series against the Baltimore Orioles affiliate. Yard Goats starting pitcher Karl Kauffmann pitched a season-high 5.1 innings, allowed one run and recorded six strikeouts to earn his first Double-A win. Elehuris Montero cranked his 14th homer, a solo shot in the second inning which gave Hartford the early lead.

The Yard Goats took a 1-0 lead in the second inning as Elehuris Montero belted a solo home run off Baysox starter Cody Sedlock. Montero’s 14th homer sailed over the left field fence, and was Hartford’s first hit of the contest.

Hartford rallied for five runs in the fourth inning to take a 6-0 lead. Sean Bouchard led off with a home run and Taylor Snyder followed with a homer to make it 3-0. The Yard Goats got their next three runs on a steal of home, fielder’s choice grounder and RBI single by Willie MacIver. Willie Abreu stole home on a double steal as the Baysox attempted to get the trailing runner at second base.

Meanwhile, Yard Goats starter Karl Kauffmann pitched his best game of the season, working a season-high 5.1 innings and recording a season-high six strikeouts. He surrendered just one run on a solo homer by Toby Walk and retired the side in order in the fifth inning, including striking out former number one overall pick Adley Rutschman.

The Baysox scored their runs on a solo homer by Toby Walk in the fourth inning, solo homer by Johnny Rizer in the eighth inning and a sacrifice fly by Walk in the ninth.

The Yard Goats continue the six-game road trip on Wednesday night in Bowie, Maryland against the Baltimore Orioles affiliate, the Bowie Baysox.
