Hartford, Conn - Tyler Hill’s homer got the Yard Goats on the board and Daniel Montano put them in the lead for good as Hartford topped the Akron Rubber Ducks, 4-2, in front of a sellout crowd at Dunkin’ Donuts Park on Friday night. With the win, Hartford snaps a season-long losing streak of just three games and remains within a game of Somerset, winners of five-straight games.

Mitch Kilkenny started for Hartford and struck out two in the first inning. In the second, Raynel Delgado singled home the first run of the game to put Akron ahead 1-0. The third baseman was promptly thrown out by Willie MacIver trying to steal second, his fourth runner caught stealing in the past five attempts.

Kilkenny worked around a leadoff double in the third before coming back to strike out Bo Naylor and Micah Pries while getting George Valera to ground out in between. In the bottom of the inning, Tyler Hill golfed a 1-1 fastball from Xzavion Curry under the scoreboard in left and out of the ballpark to tie the game at one.

Hartford’s starter struck out four over three innings. In the sixth, Akron’s George Valera clocked a solo shot to right put the Rubber Ducks back on top, 2-1. Hartford responded once again in the bottom of the sixth with a leadoff double by Isaac Collins down the line and a bomb off the bat of Daniel Montano to right for his second home run in 11 Eastern League games.

Later in the inning with two outs, Michael Toglia walked and Aaron Schunk singled. MacIver tacked on some insurance with a single to drive in Toglia and make it 4-2. Noah Gotsis gave up a run in four innings of relief for Hartford to hold the lead. PJ Poulin followed with a shutdown inning to retire Akron in the eighth, and Gavin Hollowell struck out Jonathan Engelmann with a high fastball to end it in the ninth.

The Yard Goats (39-22) and Rubber Ducks (35-26) play again tomorrow, June 18 (6:05 ET) at Dunkin’ Donuts Park. RHP Michael Baird starts for Hartford, and RHP Tanner Burns will start for Akron. The game will be broadcast on Newsradio 1410 WPOP.
