Hartford, Conn- Karl Kauffmann fired eight scoreless innings with nine strikeouts, and Willie MacIver cranked a three-run home run as the Yard Goats shutout the Binghamton Rumble Ponies 4-0 on Friday night at Dunkin Donuts Park. Kauffmann and reliever Fineas Del Bonta-Smith combined for 11 strikeouts in Hartford’s second shutout win of the season. MacIver’s home run to left field was his team-leading eighth of the season helping the Yard Goats to a third straight win.

Hartford starter Karl Kauffmann allowed just one baserunner over the first three innings. Binghamton threatened in the fourth with back-to-back singles to start the fourth inning. However, Ezequiel Tovar turned an unassisted double play on a liner and the Yard Goats defense executed on a double by Hayden Senger, throwing out Brett Bady who tried to score from first base on the hit. A tremendous relay from Kyle Datres to Tovar to Willie MacIver would nail Brady on a play at the plate.

The Yard Goats scored three runs in the bottom of the fourth inning to take a 3-0 lead. Kyle Datres singled and stole second base and Michael Toglia followed with a walk. Willie MacIver then belted a three-run homer into the seats in left field. He finished the game with 4 RBI.

Kauffmann kept the Binghamton lineup off balanced all night and after retiring the first seven batters, sat down 12 of the final 13 men faced. He struck out the side in the fifth inning and fanned six of seven batters in the fifth and sixth inning. The right-hander registered a season-high nine strikeouts.

The Yard Goats continue their homestand against the Mets affiliate, the Binghamton Rumble Ponies on Saturday night at 6:05 PM. RHP Noah Gotsis will start for the Yard Goats and RHP Drew Griffin will start for the Rumble Ponies. The Yard Goats are in a stretch of 12 home games in 13 days with the Red Sox affiliate, the Portland Sea Dogs coming to town for the second part of the homestand next week.
