HARTFORD- Down to their last out with no runners on base, the Erie Seawolves rallied for three runs to stun the Hartford Yard Goats, 11-10, before 6,806 fans at Dunkin' Donuts Park Thursday night. It was the 16th sellout of the season for the Yard Goats. The Wolves took two out of three to win the series and captured five of the six games played between the clubs in 2018.
The Yard Goats had opened a 10-3 lead after six innings, helped by a five-run sixth inning that featured a two-run home run by Ryan Metzler and a three-run homer by Brendan Rodgers, his 14th of the season. But the Seawolves came back with a five-run seventh inning, helped by a two-run homer by Josh Lester. Hartford southpaw Sean Nolin entered to restore order and was seemingly on the verge of recording his first save in seven years, after he retired the first two batters in the ninth, before the roof collapsed.
A single and two walks led to right-hand reliever Scott Griggs being summoned to face Chad Sedio and on a 2-2 pitch, the left-hand hitter cleared the bases with a double down the right field line.
Former Rock Cats LHP Caleb Thielbar pitched the final three innings for Erie (28-36) to notch his first win. Ryan Castellani started for Hartford (30-35) and pitched six innings, allowing three runs on three hits. He walked three and struck out four.
Metzler had a home run, single and four RBI to pace the Hartford attack. Mylz Jones added a single, double and an RBI, while Rodgers slugged a three-run homer.
Dominic Ficociello had two hits and two RBI, Kody Eaves two hits and an RBI, while Sedio delivered a three-run double and Lester a two-run home run to pace the Erie comeback.
Former Heisman Trophy winner Tim Tebow and the Binghamton Rumble Ponies visit Dunkin' Donuts Park to help the Yard Goats open a three-game series on Fridaynight at 7:05. RHP Jesus Tinoco will pitch for Hartford against RHP Nabil Crismatt for the New York Mets affiliate. The game will be televised on Vantage Sportsnet, broadcast on AM 1410 WPOP and streamed on newsradio.1410.com and MiLB.com.
