Somerset, New Jersey- Patriots starter Will Warren and three relievers held the Yard Goats to one run, and defeated Hartford 2-1 on Saturday night at TD Bank Ballpark in Somerset, New Jersey. The winner of tomorrow afternoon’s game will clinch the Eastern League’s Northeast Division first half title and earn a spot in the playoffs in September. The Yard Goats and Patriots will enter the final game of the first half with 43-25 records. Hartford has won three of the first five games in New Jersey, and has won 20 of its last 25 road games. Ezequiel Tovar extended his hit-streak to 11 games and Jimmy Herron and Daniel Montano each had a pair of hits for the Yard Goats.

The Patriots scored the first run of the game in the third inning off Yard Goats starter Nick Bush. Yankees top prospect Anthony Volpe led off with a double, and Elijah Dunham drove him in with a single to center field to make it 1-0. Somerset made it 2-0 on Jesus Bastidas’ solo homer in the fourth inning.

The Yard Goats would have several chances to score off Somerset starter Will Warren. Hartford stranded four men over the first three innings, and had runners at second and third in the fifth but could not score. Warren worked into the fifth inning before turning it over to the bullpen.

The Yard Goats scored in the eighth inning with a two-out rally. Aaron Schunk doubled, and Brenton Doyle followed with an RBI double to make it 2-1. Steven Jennings came in to relieve Emanual Ramirez and retired the final out with runners at first and second base. Hartford had another great chance in the ninth inning as Daniel Montano smashed a one-out double. However, Coleman retired the final two batters to earn the save.

The Yard Goats conclude their six-game series on Sunday afternoon (1:05 PM) at TD Bank Ballpark in Somerset, NJ. RHP Noah Davis will start for the Yard Goats and RHP Luis Medina will start for the Patriots. The broadcast can be heard on AM 1410 WPOP and FM 100.9 and on the iheart radio app. The Yard Goats return to Dunkin’ Donuts Park on Tuesday, June 28th (7:05 PM) and will host the New York Mets affiliate, the Binghamton Rumble Ponies.
