Hartford, Conn - Benton Doyle hit a grand slam and seven Hartford hitters drove in runs as the Yard Goats topped the Rumble Ponies 14-4 at Dunkin’ Donuts Park on Thursday night. The Yard Goats tied a season-high with an eight-run second inning and capped off their best June (16-10) in franchise history.

Following a Francisco Álvarez walk, Ronnie Mauricio golfed a two-run homer to right to put Binghamton ahead 2-0 in the first inning. But just as he did the night before, Aaron Schunk got the Yard Goats even. Hunter Stovall and Daniel Montano singled to lead off, and with two outs the Georgia alum drove a slider into the gap in right to tie the game. Schunk leads the Eastern League with 23 doubles and 51 RBIs.

In the second inning, Kyle Datres ripped a one-out single into left. Isaac Collins and Stovall both followed with walks, and Binghamton starter Jesus Vargas also walked Montano to force in a run and give the Yard Goats a 3-2 lead. Jimmy Herron ripped a single up the middle to drive in two more a couple pitches later. With two outs in the second, Doyle cranked the Yard Goats’ fourth grand slam of the season into the seats in right to put Hartford on top, 9-2. The very next batter Daniel Cope crushed a slider to left to cap the Yard Goats’ eight-run inning. `

Binghamton got a run back in the third inning on a sacrifice fly by Mauricio. Manny Rodriguez ripped a solo home run to left to get another run back for Binghamton in the fourth. In the bottom of the frame, Herron laced his second single of the game to center. Michael Toglia followed with an RBI double to put Hartford ahead 11-4.

Kyle Datres led off the fifth inning with his sixth home run of the season. Collins doubled, Stovall singled and Montano drove Collins home to make it 13-4. And Herron drove in his third runner of the game with a groundout to third. Nick Biddy, Dugan Darnell and Gavin Hollowell combined for four scoreless innings of relief following Michael Baird’s fourth-consecutive quality start.

The Yard Goats (2-1) and Rumble Ponies (1-2) play again tomorrow, June 30 (7:05 ET) at Dunkin’ Donuts Park. LHP Nick Bush starts for Hartford, and RHP Justin Lasko will start for Binghamton. The game will be broadcast on Newsradio 1410 WPOP.
