Richmond, VA- The Hartford Yard Goats ended their season opening six-game road trip with a 4-2 loss against the Richmond Flying Squirrels on Sunday afternoon in Virginia. Frankie Tostado cracked the go-ahead two-run triple and scored on the same play in the fourth inning. The Yard Goats led 1-0 in the first inning on Sean Bouchard’s RBI double, and 2-1 on Coco Montes RBI double in the second inning. Tristan Beck worked five innings and allowed two runs on five hits to earn the win. Yard Goats starter Ryan Rolison struck out a season-high eight batters over four innings but was tagged with the loss. Relievers Julian Fernandez, Tate Scioneaux, Reagan Todd and Yoan Aybar worked four shutout innings out of the Hartford bullpen.

The Yard Goats scored the first run of the game in the first inning as Sean Bouchard doubled home Elehuris Montero from first base with two outs. Richmond tied the game in the bottom of the first inning when David Villar cranked a solo home run over the left field fence.

The Yard Goats took a 2-1 lead in the fourth inning on a pair of doubles. Montero began the inning with an extra base hit and Coco Montes then ripped a double to right field scoring Montero to make it 2-1. Montes was thrown out trying to stretch it into a triple.

Richmond scored three times in the fourth inning and never looked back. Vince Fernandez and Andres Angulo singled with a passed ball advancing the runners to second and third. Tostado then smashed the 2RBI double that gave Richmond the lead for good. Three Squirrel relievers fired five scoreless to end the game. The Yard Goats stranded nine baserunners while dropping five of six in the series.

The Yard Goats will be off tomorrow and open up the 2021 home schedule on Tuesday night at Dunkin’ Donuts Park against the Boston Red Sox affiliate, the Portland Sea Dogs. RHP Garrett Schilling will start for the Yard Goats. The game will be televised on COZI TV and also broadcast on AM 1410 WPOP and FM 100.9FM and newsradio1410.iheart.com.
