Hartford, CT- Somerset Patriots right-hander Luis Medina fired seven scoreless innings leading the New York Yankees affiliate to 1-0 victory against the Yard Goats on Wednesday night at Dunkin’ Donuts Park in Hartford. The Yard Goats got great pitching from starter Karl Kauffmann, along with relievers Zach Matson and Will Gaddis in the second of a six-game series. Patriots shortstop Oswald Paraza drove in the only run of the game with a single in the third inning, scoring Monroe, Connecticut native Tommy Milone. The Yard Goats and Patriots will play tomorrow night in Hartford, and then the series will shift to New Jersey for Friday through Sunday.

The Patriots scored the only run of the game in the bottom of the third innings as Somerset played as the home team. Thomas Milone cracked a one-out single and advanced to second base on Brandon Lockridge’s walk. Yankees #3 prospect Oswald Peraza followed with a single to left field and Milone scored, giving Somerset a 1-0 lead. Hartford starter Karl Kauffmann would only allow one more hit the rest of the evening and retired nine of the next 13 batters.

Somerset starter Luis Medina was sharp and allowed just three hits over the first five innings. After combining to strike out 22 batters over his previous two starts, the Yard Goats made solid contact and only fanned five times against the hard throwing righty. He hurled seven shutout innings, allowed six hits and a walk, while earning the win and improving to 4-3. Relievers Addison Russ and Nick E

The Yard Goats had a great opportunity to score in the sixth inning with the bases loaded and one out but couldn’t push a run across. Jose Gomez led off the inning with a single and took third base on Jameson Hannah’s double. Sean Bouchard worked a walk to load the bases against Medina. However, he got a strikeout, and then an infield grounder to end the threat.

The Yard Goats conclude the homestand on Thursday evening (6:05 PM) against the New York Yankees affiliate, the Somerset Patriots.
