Hartford, CT- The Hartford Yard Goats were denied a third straight win as they were defeated by the Binghamton Rumble Ponies 3-2 on Wednesday night at Dunkin’ Donuts Park in Hartford. The Mets affiliate scored a pair of runs in the fifth inning and added a third run on Nick Meyer’s solo homer in the seventh. Binghamton starter Connor Gray worked six innings and allowed just one run while recording nine strikeouts. Casey Golden and Elehuris Montero each had two hits for the Yard Goats.

The Rumble Ponies took a 2-0 lead with a pair of runs in the fifth inning off reliever Will Gaddis. Luis Carpio started the rally with a leadoff double and eventually scored on Matt Winaker’s single to make it 1-0 Binghamton. Later in the inning, Jake Mangum’s run-scoring single scored Winaker, giving the Ponies a 2-0 lead.

The Yard Goats scored a run in the sixth inning on Elehuris Montero’s sacrifice fly, bringing home Jameson Hannah and making it 2-1. After Binghamton took a 3-1 lead on Nick Meyer’s solo home run in the seventh, the Yard Goats made it 3-2 on Manny Melendez’ sacrifice fly in the bottom of the inning. Hartford started the inning with three straight singles but managed the only run on the flyout.

Binghamton reliever Eric Orze retired six of seven batters faced, including five strikeouts, over the final two innings to record the save.

The Yard Goats continue their six-game series against the Binghamton Rumble Ponies on Thursday evening at 7:05 PM at Dunkin’ Donuts Park.
