Yard Goats Lose Rain Shortened Game in Portland
Portland, ME- The Portland Sea Dogs defeated the Hartford Yard Goats in a rain-shorted five inning game by the score of 7-0 on Monday evening at Hadlock Field in Portland, Maine. It was the first game of a three-game series as the Yard Goats began the second leg of a two-city six-game road trip. Hartford just took two of three in New Hampshire.   The game was played in the rain over the first five innings and then stopped after the Sea Dogs batted in the fifth. Portland starting pitcher and Red Sox prospect Tanner Houck fired five scoreless innings and recorded a season-high nine strikeouts in the win.
The Sea Dogs scored three runs with a two-out rally in the second inning off Hartford starter Brandon Gold. After Gold struck out the first two batters, Jerry Downs ripped a double off the left field fence. Luke Tender followed with a double to centerfield, scoring Downs and giving Portland a 1-0 lead. Oscar Hernández then dropped a single into short left field and Tender scored to make it 2-0. Keith Curcio continued the rally with an RBI single, scoring Hernandez to give Portland a 3-0 lead.
Portland added a pair of runs in the third inning on Tate Metheny's two-run single. C.J. Chatham lead off the inning with a double, Bobby Dalbec was hit by a pitch, and Marcus Wilson walked to load the bases. Matheny followed with a two-run single scoring Chatham and Dalbec and giving Portland a 5-0 lead.
Sea Dogs third baseman and Red Sox prospect Bobby Dalbec ripped a two-run homer in the fourth inning off reliever Jordan Foley to make it 7-0 Portland.
The Yard Goats will play the middle game of the three-game series against the Sea Dogs on Tuesday night at Hadlock Field in Portland, Maine. The game will be broadcast on AM 1410 WPOP and 100.9 FM and streamed on newsradio.1410.com and MiLB.com. The Yard Goats return home to Dunkin' Donuts Park for their second homestand on Thursday night to host the Harrisburg Senators (Washington Nationals affiliate).
