Reading, PA- The Yard Goats scored ten runs for the second straight game, and defeated the Reading Fightin Phils 10-6 on Thursday night at FirstEnergy Stadium in Reading, Pennsylvania. The victory was the fourth in five games, and the first-place Yard Goats gained another game in the standings as the Portland Sea Dogs lost to Erie. Brenton Doyle homered, Michael Toglia had an RBI double, and Hunter Stovall added a 2 RBI triple, as five Yard Goats had multiple hit games. Reliever Dugan Darnell worked 2.1 scoreless innings to record the win and improve to 3-0.

The Yard Goats scored a pair of runs in the first inning off Reading starter McKinley Moore. Daniel Montano led off with a single, took second on a wild pitch and scored on a double by Michael Toglia, giving Hartford a 1-0 lead. Later in the first inning, Kyle Datres’ grounder scored Grant Lavigne to make it 2-0.

Reading scored a run in the bottom of the first inning as Wendell Rijo cranked a two-out solo homer off Yard Goats starter Noah Gotsis. Gotsis retired nine of the first ten batters faced, including the side in order in the second and third innings.

The Yard Goats added two runs in the fourth inning on a pair of wild pitches. Kyle Datres and Brenton Doyle both scored on balls in the dirt to make it 4-1 Hartford. The Fightin Phils scored two in the bottom of the fourth inning to make it a 4-3 game. However, the Yard Goats added three more runs in the fifth, highlighted by a two-run bullet homer by Brenton Doyle. Reading made it 7-5 with two runs in the bottom of the fifth but the Yard Goats scored another three in the sixth to make it 10-5. Hunter Stovall had the big hit in the sixth inning with a two-RBI triple.

The Yard Goats play the fourth game of the six-game series on Friday night at 7:05 PM. RHP Noah Davis will start for the Yard Goats and RHP Trevor Bettencourt will start for the Fightins. The broadcast can be heard on AM 1410 WPOP and FM 100.9 and on the iheart radio app. The Yard Goats return home to Dunkin Donuts Park on Tuesday, August 16th to host the New Hampshire Fisher Cats.
