Crawdads Cap Wild Night with Walkoff Homerun

Newcomers Help Spark 'Dads Offense Over Fireflies

Hickory, NC- The Crawdads won in walkoff fashion on Wednesday night, defeating the Columbia Fireflies 11-10. The winning run came on a line drive homerun by pinch hitter Tyreque Reed.

The victory is the 'Dads second straight walkoff win at the Frans, closing out the last homestand with a walkoff on a wild pitch on April 29th. Their latest victory came as the team fought back from a six-run deficit.
Pitchers for both teams struggled to find the strike zone all night, walking a combined 16 batters. The teams used a total of 9 pitchers during the three hour and forty minute game.
The Fireflies jumped on Crawdads started Tyree Thompson early, scoring three runs in the top of the first.
The Crawdads were quick to respond, putting up a run in the bottom of the inning. Right fielder Miguel Aparicio started the rally with a double before being driven in by first baseman Justin Jacobs. Left fielder Austin O'Banion kept the 'Dads momentum going with a walk in his first plate appearance with the Crawdads and was brought in to score when third baseman Ryan Dorow walked with the bases loaded to cut the 'Dads deficit to one.
Center fielder Bubba Thompson, also making his Crawdads debut, recorded his first hit as a 'Dad with a single to shallow left in the second inning. Thompson was selected by the Rangers with the number 26 overall pick in the 2017 draft out of McGill-Toolen High School in Mobile, Alabama. He is currently ranked as the Ranger's number five prospect.
The Fireflies added 5 more runs to give Columbia an 8-2 lead. The 'Dads got two runs back in the bottom of the sixth on consecutive walks with the bases loaded. Thompson reached on a fielding error that scored two runs. The 'Dads loaded the bases again as the next batter, Aparicio, walked. Jacobs kept the 'Dads offense going with the third bases-loaded walk of the inning that put the Crawdads down by just a run. Thompson dashed home for the tying run on a wild pitch.
'Dads catcher Yohel Pozo led off the bottom of the seventh with a single to right. Shortstop Cristian Inoa, in his debut game in Hickory, singled to put runners on first and second. Thompson poked a single to right that brought Pozo in to score and gave the Crawdads their first lead of the night. Aparicio gave the 'Dads an insurance run on a single that brought Inoa in to score.
The Fireflies fought back in the back in top the ninth, scoring two runs to tie the game at 10.
The 'Dads pinch hit for second baseman Kole Enright with another Crawdads newcomer, Tyreque Reed. Reed sent a ball over the left-center field fence to give the 'Dads a 11-10 victory.
Thompson, O'Banion, Inoa, and Reed all recorded a hit and combined for 4 RBIs and 5 runs in their Hickory debuts.
The homestand will continue tomorrow night at 7pm with Dunder Mifflin Night. Fans who come dressed as their favorite character from the Office will receive a free ticket to the game. It is also Thirsty Thursday, presented by Sheetz and Focus News, which means fans can enjoy discounted beer and Pepsi products throughout the night.
