Crawdads Club Three Homers as they Defeat Suns

Hickory, NC- The Crawdads hit three homeruns on Tuesday night as they defeated the Hagerstown Suns 7-0. The 'Dads will go for the three-game sweep tomorrow afternoon after winning Monday's contest as well.

Hickory, NC- The Crawdads hit three homeruns on Tuesday night as they defeated the Hagerstown Suns 7-0. The 'Dads will go for the three-game sweep tomorrow afternoon after winning Monday's contest as well.

The Crawdads took an early lead with a three-run second inning. Sherten Apostel walked to get things started. Pedro Gonzalez reached on a fielding error that allowed Apostel to advance to third. Matt Whatley doubled in Apostel for the first run of the game. Frainyer Chavez hit a sacrifice bunt that the Suns threw away, allowing Gonzalez and Whatley to score.
In the bottom of the third, Tyreque Reed crushed a homerun to right field that bounced off an outfield billboard about 30 feet high. Two batters later, Pedro Gonzalez added another monster homerun, this one hitting a light pole in left field, that gave the 'Dads a 5-0 lead.
Reed singled to start another rally in the bottom of the seventh. Apostel followed up with a homerun to left field that made the score 7-0.
Cole Winn, the Rangers #2 prospect, got the start for the Crawdads, tossing four scoreless innings. He allowed one hit and struck out three. Ronny Henriquez came into the game in relief of Winn and pitched three innings, yielding just one hit. He struck out six and walked none. Lefty Lucas Jacobsen blanked the Suns over the last two innings.
The homestand wraps up tomorrow with a noon game. It is summer camp day and the Crawdads will welcome local camps to the park.
