Crawdads Rally Falls Short in 6-3 Loss

Hickory, NC- The Crawdads rallied late but couldn’t come up with the big hit to pull ahead of the Greenville Drive, falling 6-3. With Bowling Green’s loss, the ‘Dads are still a half game out of first place with six to play in the first half.

Greenville jumped on ‘Dads starting pitcher Robby Ahlstrom for two runs in the first inning. They got three more in the third, his last inning of work. Making his first appearance for the Crawdads, Ahlstrom allowed five runs (three earned) on four hits and two walks.

Marc Church took over in relief for the Crawdads and tossed three scoreless innings, striking out six. Yohanse Morel handled the seventh and pitched a shutout inning.

The ‘Dads got their first runs of the game across in the bottom of the seventh. Chris Seise led off the inning with a single and advanced to second on a wild pitch. Thomas Saggese’s base hit to left moved Seise to third. Frainyer Chavez singled to center to score Seise and put runners on the corners. Luisangel Acuña singled to cut the deficit to two runs.

In the top of the ninth, Greenville got another run across off Eudrys Manon.

The ‘Dads rallied in the ninth inning, scoring a run but they couldn’t get any more in after loading the bases. Keyber Rodriguez, Saggese and Aaron Zavala all singled to load the bases. Acuña hit into a force out that scored Rodriguez and made it a 6-3 ballgame. Evan Carter was hit by a pitch to load the bases once again and bring the winning run to the plate with two outs, but a strikeout ended the game.

Tomorrow night is Marvel’s Defenders of the Diamond Night and the ‘Dads will be wearing Thor-inspired jerseys that are up for auction until 9pm.
