Crawdads Wrap up 2021 Season

‘Dads Rally in 8th But Fall 4-3

Hickory, NC- The Crawdads wrapped up their 2021 home season on Sunday afternoon as they squared off against the Greenville Drive. The ‘Dads rallied to tie the game in the eighth, but gave up a run in the ninth to fall 4-3. The Drive struck first in the fourth inning,

Hickory, NC- The Crawdads wrapped up their 2021 home season on Sunday afternoon as they squared off against the Greenville Drive. The ‘Dads rallied to tie the game in the eighth, but gave up a run in the ninth to fall 4-3.

The Drive struck first in the fourth inning, getting an unearned run off starting pitcher Kevin Gowdy.

The ‘Dads tied the game in the bottom half of the inning. Jake Guenther, Trevor Hauver, and Pedro Gonzalez started the inning with singles to load the bases. Konner Piotto grounded into a double play but Guenther was able to score.

Greenville collected two more runs in the fifth to pull ahead 3-1 and chase Gowdy out of the game. Gowdy finished after 4.1 innings, surrendering three runs (two earned) and four hits and three walks while striking out two.

Joe Corbett took over for the ‘Dads, pitching 2.2 scoreless innings out of the bullpen.

The Crawdads staged a comeback in the eighth, tying the game at 3. Dustin Harris singled to right to get the rally started while Guenther followed up with a single of his own. Hauver collected his the third straight single to send Harris in from second and put Guenther on third. Gonzalez hit a sacrifice fly to give the ‘Dads their third run.

A solo homerun by the Drive in the top of the ninth inning brought the score to it’s final of 4-3 and gave the ‘Dads their 13th consecutive loss.

The Crawdads will head to Rome to finish out the regular season.
