Hickory, NC- The Crawdads dropped Tuesday’s series opener 6-5 to the Asheville Tourists in a 10-inning matchup.

Asheville’s lead off hitter tripled and came in on a grounder, putting the ‘Dads in a 1-0 hole.

The Crawdads quickly dug themselves out, getting three runs in the bottom half of the inning. They repeated Asheville’s model as Evan Carter led off the inning with a triple down the right field line. Alejandro Osuna drove in Carter on a ground out to second. Trevor Hauver drew a two-out walk and Cristian Inoa singled to put runners on the corners. Cody Freeman picked up a base hit to left, scoring Hauver and sending Inoa to third. A wild pitch that the catcher threw down to the second baseman, who missed the catch, allowing Inoa to come home.

The Tourists put up a run in the fourth inning but still trailed 3-2.

The ‘Dads rallied in the home half of the fourth, scoring two to bring the score to 5-2. Freeman and Chris Seise began the inning with back-to-back walks. The runners executed a double steal and as the throw down rolled away, Freeman came home to score. Evan Carter brought Seise home on a sacrifice fly to center.

Asheville got a run in the seventh and two in the eighth to tie the game.

With the score even at 5, the ‘Dads threatened in the ninth as Keyber Rodriguez singled, stole second and advanced to third as the catchers throw went into center. The ‘Dads were unable to get him in, sending the game to extras.

Asheville scored their designated runner from second in the tenth inning. The Crawdads were unable to do the same, bringing the game to a 6-5 finish.

The series continues tomorrow evening with Kids Win Wednesday presented by Arby’s and Wine Wednesday by Catawba Farms and Carolina Vines. It is also a Cereal Celebration.
