Moody, Robstown Continue Amateur Slate Tuesday

CORPUS CHRISTI - High school baseball is here.

The first of 14 2013 Whataburger Field regular-season high school games unfolds tonight at 6:30 when Carroll, the state's fourth-ranked Class 5A team, entertains Victoria East. The Tigers are in rebuilding mode after losing eight everyday regulars off a 32-5 state semifinalist.

Carroll coach Lee Yeager has indicated Isaiah Lybarger (0-0 varsity record in 2012) will draw the pitching assignment.

The Titans, led by coach Wes Kolle, were 20-13 overall a year ago and 8-2 in District 30-4A. They fell to Moody in the area round of the playoffs.

Tuesday, a pair of 6th-ranked clubs take center stage. The Trojans are rated by the Texas High School Baseball Coaches Association in Class 4A, Robstown in 3A. Moody coach Joe Curiel plans to throw left-hander Kenny Saenz, who was 11-3 as a sophomore for a 27-5 club that won 17 straight.

Tickets are $5 for adults and $3 for youth 4-14. Children 3-and-under are free.

Gates open at 5:30 both evenings.
