The Astros have called up IF J.D. Davis to Houston from Triple-A Fresno. Davis, who homered last night at Iowa, batted .295 with 5 doubles, 5 dingers, 18 RBIs and a .993 OPS in 16 games for the Grizzlies.

The Cal State Fullerton product was with the Hooks until his Pacific Coast League promotion in late July. Davis hit .279 with a Texas League best 21 home runs and 60 RBIs in 87 games for the Hooks. He led the club with 18 doubles while, at the time of his promotion, ranked among the league leaders in total bases (1st, 179), extra-base hits (1st, 39), slugging (3rd, .510) and RBIs (4th).

Davis, tabbed the Texas League's Player of the Month for June (.343-7-23), is tied for 3rd in the minor leagues with 26 home runs. The 24-year-old slugger holds the Hooks record for career home runs, belting 44 in 213 games over parts of 2 Double-A campaigns. Davis matched the club standard for dingers in game last season, clubbing 3 May 19 at The Wolff in San Antonio.

Davis, a 3rd-round pick of the Astros in 2014, hit .365 in 28 Grapefruit League games this Spring. He is poised to become the 11th Corpus Christi alum to make his Major League debut this season, joining RHP Troy Scribner (LAA), OF Derek Fisher (HOU), RHP Francis Martes (HOU), LHP Josh Hader (MIL), OF Brett Phillips (MIL), LHP Reymin Guduan (HOU), IF Nolan Fontana (LAA), RHP Mike Hauschild (TEX), RHP Jordan Jankowski (HOU) & RHP Arcenio Leon (DET). When Davis appears for the Astros, the Hooks will have "graduated" 101 players to the bigs in their 13-year history.

Davis is also primed to become the first 2017 Hook to reach the Majors. Last year, IF Yuli Gurriel, OF Teoscar Hernandez, RHP Joe Musgrove and RHP David Paulino joined USA TODAY Minor League Player of the Year Alex Bregman as players who began the season in Corpus Christi, only to finish as members of the Houston Astros
