Doran, Tropeano Unseat RoughRiders

April 19, 2013

CORPUS CHRISTI - Bobby Doran allowed a run over five innings and Nick Tropeano earned a four-inning save as Corpus Christi beat Frisco 3-2 Friday night before 5,794 at Whataburger Field.

The Hooks (8-6) snapped a four-game losing streak while handing the RoughRiders (9-5) their first setback in seven contests.

Doran (2-0) walked one and struck out six. He threw 83 pitches, 55 for strikes. Tropeano picked up save No. 2.

Michael Burgess' double in the first snapped an 0-for-22 skid and boosted the Hooks up 2-0. Ben Orloff and George Springer produced consecutive one-out singles before the blow to right.

Frisco answered right away, Chih-Hsien Chiang's lead-off triple to right-center converted on a single up the middle by Ryan Strausborger.

Springer's soft two-out liner into center plated Austin Wates (single) with the third Hooks run.

Hanser Alberto's two-out hit during the seventh pulled the RoughRiders to within one. Strausborger scored after singling and advancing to second on an errant pick-off attempt by Tropeano.

Tropeano got a 6-4-3 double-play ball off the bat of Alex Buchholz with two on in the eighth to quell a RoughRiders uprising.

Hooks catcher Carlos Perez threw out three would-be base stealers.

Frisco starter Kevin Pucetas (2-1) covered the first seven innings in 89 pitches (67 strikes). He was responsible for eight hits, four strikeouts and did not walk a man.

RoughRiders first baseman Guilder Rodriguez led all players with three hits and teammate Jared Hoying extended his hitting streak to seven games.

David Martinez (1-0) opens for the Hooks Saturday at 7:05 vs. Carlos Pimentel (2-0). The first 1,750 fans receive a Hooks Purple Jersey from CITGO.
